Anyone know anything about rebuilding a Certificate of Destruction? I'm interested in a way to make a COD into something legal for registration.

I could be wrong, but as far as I know, once the DMV has issued the vehicle a COD there's no chance of registering it as a street vehicle again.
Sort of a shame in some cases with some vehicles, but unless there is an affidavit and/or DMV inspection I'm unaware of, I don't think theres much of a way around this. |

I've heard mixed answers.
I've heard there is a way to get a ASPT title (assembled from parts). I've also heard there are "title guys" who can fix COD's for a flat rate. Anyone have any info?

quick google results from 2006
Kentucky has been accepting Florida C.O.Ds for YEARS. You send in the C.O.D. to the transportation cabinet, submit two notorized bodyshop estimates to repair the vehicle, along with 2 photos of the car showing the damage, and in turn, they send you a Kentucky Salvage title. From there, you just repair the vehicle, have it inspected (They only write down your VIN and check the mileage for your inspection. They don't actually inspect the work itself) and send in your receipts and a notorazied labor statement. From there, you'll get a letter in the mail that allows you to register the vehicle and receive a Kentucky Rebuilt Title. Several salvage dealers from here make weekly runs down to FL, bring semi-truck loads of COD cars back and go through the process. COD cars tend to sell for REALLY REALLY cheap, and for some strange reason; most of the ones I have seen have less damage than a lot of clean titled wrecks I see. |

Thanks Ronnie!
Mr Burt Reynolds (in Swedish accent a la Cheech & Chong 'Still Smokin') you CANNOT convert a FL COD to ANY kind of FL title. It's a fcukin shame, as I see some REALLY nice cars in the j/y and they will just be destroyed. I used to help a friend file for CODs at his tow lot all the time, and I would pick which turds I wanted before we filed, as once they were filed for a COD.... |

Yea unfortunately with a COD, your turd's toast in FL. The DMV folks stopped accepting ASPT apps from cars built from COD's a few years back. You could call some other counties though, as I'm nearly positive that was a "office management" change not a state change.
